French Marigold Double Shade Dwarf is an old, popular variety. These compact plants produce abundant double, ruffled blooms in rich shades — ideal for borders, edging, pots and winter flower beds. They’re low-maintenance, fast to flower and make a cheerful, colorful display throughout the season.
Sow indoors in February–March (or September–October for a cool-winter display in milder areas) at 18–24 °C in trays. Prick out the seedlings after 3–6 weeks. Transplant to the greenhouse or under plastic at the end of April / after hardening off; in cooler-winter sowings transplant in late autumn where appropriate. Flowering begins about 8–12 weeks after sowing and continues for months with regular deadheading. Harvest/flowering peak: March–June for spring sowing, November–February for autumn/winter sowing (regional variation applies).
