Sow indoors in February–March at 20–28°C in shallow trays or small pots with a free-draining cactus mix. Lightly press seeds onto the surface — do not bury (covering depth 0–0.5 mm). Keep the compost evenly moist (use a fine spray) and provide bright light; germination can take 7–30 days (some species longer). Prick out or transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, usually after 8–12 weeks, and gradually acclimatize to stronger light. Transplant to individual pots once roots fill the plug or pot. After establishment, grow in a sunny, well-drained spot and water sparingly.
